Oregon Adventures-July 4th Weekend

After returning from London, Morgan and I hit Portland for Thursday of the Waterfront Blues Festival. This year's blues fest raised $510,000 and 97,343 pounds of food for the Oregon Food Bank making it the second highest year for gate donations in the festival’s 20-year history . Two cans of food and $8 is all it took to enjoy some of the best blues music around. We went to see J.J. Grey and Mofro. They are so amazing. Then blues legend, Ninety-four year old Pintop Perkins, showed us what old time blues is all about.

Next day we headed west for some fly fishing and camping. Thirty minutes outside of Estacada and we were just outside the Bull of the Woods wilderness area. Campgrounds were busy, but the area was beautiful. Hiking the Bull of the Woods trail left us surround by bear grass, butterflies and views of Three Sisters, Mt. Bachelor, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams. Unfortunately, no big fish tales. But two very small, very spirited Rainbow Trout left me eager to improve my fishing skills and hungry for some pan fried trout.

The trip was a great way to welcome in July.
